A short ten-minute drive takes you from Blueberry Meadows to traffic lights and civilization featuring fine dining, entertainment and shopping. Johnstown and the quaint town of Bedford are a 25 minute drive, with Altoona, Somerset and historic Ligonier less than an hour distant.

Windber is home to the critically acclaimed Arcadia Theater featuring professional musicians and larger groups from entertainment venues such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Several blocks away is the Windber Research Institute, an innovative biomedical think tank specializing in the research of breast cancer, cardiovascular risk and disease and challenges of fitness and metabolic balance.

Windber is also the site of the Dog Run, a unique non-profit motorcycle poker run in September that is among the most popular motorcycle festivals in the eastern United States. Founded by high school classmates as a way to enjoy their bikes and raise money for the community, it has grown to a weekend event contributing nearly $500,000 to Windber Area playgrounds, libraries, and service organizations.

Just a few miles distant is the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's beautiful campus and the Johnstown business park. Johnstown's special events include Thunder in the Valley, the AAABA Tournament and the Folkfest.
